The Adventures of a Hocking College Student
I’ll be using this space to document my way through the Cybersecurity courses at Hocking! And maybe even more if things work out!
A little about me:
I’ve got a son, whom I adore and want only the best for him.
I’m an open-source advocate. Whenever possible, I steer far away from proprietary-based solutions. I love using Linux and I can’t stand using Microsoft Windows. I am happy that they integrated Linux into Windows recently. And if it matters, I enjoy using the KDE Plasma interface at the moment.
I have a range of interests which include sci-fi and dystopian movies, cars, motor sports, forests, creeks, mushrooms, all the little flowers and trees, music based electronics (think Craig Anderton), music-based programming (think Miller S Puckette), Linux’s music based tools. I have a DIY mentality when it comes to things. I recently got into scanning sheet music into the computer and outputing it as Open Music Format using neural networking / ML libraries and hooking up different instruments made in PureData to those voices.
I’ve tinkered with PC’s, Printers and Networking equipment since an early age. My dad worked for Olivetti and would bring home old or spare parts for me to play with. I worked at local computer shop in highschool, supporting businesses, individuals and had an ISP attached to it. From there I moved to working for the Ohio prison system, that didn’t last long as I got really depressed and as well had a laptop stolen from me and got what I thought was unfairly reprimanded for it. I drove off to a start a new life that night. I wound up in Santa Cruz, and luckily landed a job at UCSC, in their central IT group. I eventually got bored of that and ended up back in Ohio. I started working at cooperative and learned how to help run a business and took many of the cooperative values to heart. I eventually started my own successful business, that is untili Covid. After Covid, I got a job at a machine shop and learned to run manual and cnc machines, read blueprints and had a lot of fun making and repairing parts for Goodyear Tire company. After the while, I decided to go back to school… hopefully to get an Associates degree and maybe even a Bachelors. Which brings us to this wonderful website.
